1) You've answered your own question. It should be up to the user to select his/her own username.
2) If you're spending time debating whether or not you want other people to know who you are, or what you're doing when...then you probably shouldn't be doing it online.
3) Why let us know you're not going to defend yourself and then proceed to do so?
