The u joint is simpler but hey ....live and learn; I'll give the wire a go.

I really want to tap the full potential of this boat and I figure a true zero drive angle is a step it that direction.

Only problem is that I'll have to use steel welding rod, I can only find coiled music wire here. Anyone tried this?
