will it run with just a standard fuel mix? (less RPM of coarse) i.e, 50:1 gas and 2-stroke oil? or will this fuel the plug?

Mine run well with glow plug powered all the time. No problem with glow plug durability so far. Use the amount of oil recommended for the engine. Most of "garden" tools run on 1:33 so that's why 10/10 fuels is good. If your engine can run on 1:50, you can adjust the mixture as long as you have around 30% methanol (for running the engine without glow battery).
On the other subject, I have almost new OS BGX (35cc) laying around, that I will not use. I'm thinking of making a Walbro adapter and run it on gas/glow mixture (with 18% oil of course). What Walbro number should I use?
