RE: NEW~~~E-Flite Extra 260 480 ARF~~~
I took out the maxi dancer and used a motor very similar to the PA thrust 30 or EF torque 2818-900 and got 4 flights on it after work yesterday. I was using a xoar 11x5 wood prop drawing about 22A. I would NOT use any more than 12" props on such a small plane, even at 11 prop torque is a little more apparent than on the 10", this causes roll on throttle and makes the plane's response a little less predictable. If you want this plane to feel like a giant keep it LIGHT. IMO even a 2100 pro lite with the recomended motor is too much balast, ideal is a 100 to 120 gram pack capable of 26A continuous discharge. Yes this means shorter flights; get more packs. With the extra weight of the motor and a 22A wot load i set the timer at 5 minutes on each pack and standing voltage after 30 minutes rest was 11.5V per pack which means there is a lot left in there. I will set timer at 6 minutes next time and measure resting voltages again. I am pretty sure i will inch my way up to 7-8 minutes like this on 1300mah packs which is quite acceptable.
With only a 1300mah 20C pack i was barely able to achieve 3D CG with the pack almost touching the wing tube. I could not use my 1700mah or more pack with this motor because it becomes nose heavy (the battery tray is in front of the cg mark)
So when chosing a power system take the weight into careful consideration...
Even with the cg right it didn't feel as good as it did with the lighter motor. Looking forward to getting my scorpion 3008/32 !
