That 3mm-53 idles down just fine. I had it down to 1,300 just to see how low it would go and still come back around again. It works but don't go there. Shakes things pretty good, and it's on the ragged side of not coming back on. If after the warm up you can tag 1,600-1,800 you'll be just fine. When you hit final just drop the idle trim another click or two for a nice slow speed settle in. Most people take off before the engine has fully warmed up so the idle is higher after 5 or 10 minutes of flying and needs to be brought down for landing. That round cowl bleeds excess speed very well. I was doing split esses to final off the end of the runway and she slowed down beautifully.

If you're getting a lot of pitch to the belly in K.E. it's an indication of being tail heavy. Pitch to the canopy is nose heavy. As you put in some flying time check your trims to verify you're not carrying any up or down trim all the time. The best way to adjust that trim is with the balance.
