Really depends on what kind of traction you want to get, and if you do a lot of jumping the inserts hinder the cushion of the tire................thats why there is usually a pin hole in most rims to let the air out and cushion the landing[:@]

Foams absorb shock from jumps and bumps and keep the tire from squishing down to the rim and also to build up the side wall of the tire so when in a turn the tire dose not want to lean on and roll on the wall of the tire. they also help with handling cuz they help stop body roll
