Rotatiing generally retract fore and aft, like the underside of a corsair. Regular 90 degree go lateral like a P-51. When the gear comes down on the rotating, it starts off sideways and rotates into a normal position. Regular 90degrees just come down and your fine.

One area I don't like much is many rotatings use a bellcrank. You really need to get a smooth setup with a bellcrank or there will be binding issues. Regular 90's are very basic and not many problems
