Default RE: retracts

Heres what I use, basic Hobbico mechanicals. Thing is I modify them because they come with a 1/8 strut. They do have hex set screws so the struts are removable. I chuck those struts and get some 3/16 steel rod. Drill the retract hole to fit. I take the rod to a friend who ownes a metals shop. I cut the rod into 2 pieces 18" long. We put a 1/4 inch bolt sticking up un a vise.

Heat the rod red and wrap the rod around the bolt in the middle of the rod. Remember to go left for one and right for the other to have a left and right strut. Then cut to fit and you have a solid pair of struts under their. usually the rods that come with most mechanicals are cheap and bend easy. My mods are very simple.

Regardless of what you do, you need to slop some epoxy in and around those mounting blocks or they may break loose or even go as far as come right up through the top of the wing.
