Default RE: Yellow P-38 build thread

Yo Shaun,
Well thanks for the compliment.
I'm not the best but I try hard!

----------------------

pic 1:
This isn't exactly P-38 material but it's related (spinners!).
I needed to get my new spinner ready for my yellow spitfire.
The instructions say screws holes not more than 1 1/2" apart.
I used a 'divider' and just adjusted it until each end screw was just next to the prop hole.
This came out to be around 1 11/32" and six screws on each side.
Using 4X40 screws, I centered punched the mark, used a 1/16" bit for a pilot hole and then drilled the final hole using a #43 bit: per the tap instructions and then just tapped all the holes using cutting oil on all procedures.

pic 2:
After a quick wipe down using laquer thinner, it took about 30 seconds to paint her.
Looked like rustoleum 'seaside green' from home depot matches that British nose spinner color!
Close enough for me.
I'm not sure why we get 'hungup' on the exact color anyway: There's no way in h@ll any two warbirds out in the weather after a month in a war are going to look alike, 'let alone' the original color, plus you have to 'scale down' the colors anyway to look right on a model!
A very subjective area compared to dimensions.
