As far as skill level ,intermediate,i have stiks and a u can do 46 in my hangar, not a great 3d flyer but hoping the purchase of a profile might help me out in that area.
You are on the right track Cameron. Profiles make great teachers for 3D. There were some suggestions early on in this thread, and if I were you, I'd look at them again.
Do you want to build it? Do you want to ARF it?
If you want to build....either the OMP Edge 540,
www.ohiomodelplanes.com or the Swanson Mojo .40
www.swanyshouse.com would be great choices. Of course there's others, but these two are really good to start with. They're durable, and they fly SO darned good that they get better as you improve. Some might argue there's nothing else to consider in this size range for a max fun.
For ARFs....There's the OMP Edge 540 V3, the OMP (or is it TMPro?) Katana, and rumour has it....Swanson will be offering an ARF of the Mojo 40 in the not too distant future.
You can't go wrong with these guys. Super airplanes, and you'll love anyone you pick.
