Try some heat!
I've had both success and failure with this method. Seems to depend on how old the glue job is, and perhaps how large an area was glued.
First, take and old drip type oil can - the kind grampa had where your thumb goes on the bottom to dripple out a bit of oil. Now cut of the stem near the top, you want a little less than a half inch diameter opening in the stem... Then use some 100% cotton rope as a wick. (Has to be all cotton, no nylon or you will smoke yourself out) Half fill the oil can with Denatured Alcohol and you have a clean burning lamp.... be careful, it won't explode but if tipped over you have a problem.
Now, heat a flexible knife, say a putty knife with a wood handle, over the flame. This will likely slide through the glue, or could be used as an iron on the wood to heat it enough to "debond" things. With a little experience you will find how hot the knife needs to be. This will also work to make small patches on covering, but you REALLY have to be careful with the heat!
Not that I've ever made a mistake either, but I do know this often works... oh ya!!
If you try this, let me know how it worked... Good Luck
