just to clear a few things up I didn’t just take it from the box and mount it and tun it on, I set the HSN out 3 turns as recommended by Supertiger, I also dropped a few drops of fuel into the head to oil it up and help get things started and choked the engine, basically I followed the instruction book for the engine.
A mate of mine seems to think that my chuck on the fuel line is not placed right or has fallen off would this hinder the engine start in any way?
I find that it is usually best NOT to touch the settings on the needles, on a new out of box engine UNTIL it has been broken in.
Most engines come with the needles already set for an initial startup, with the setting a bit rich to boot for proper breakin.
All of my Supertigres have started right up, right out of the box, after TIGHTLY installing the carb ( press down that ring! ) and tightening all of the cap screws.
Note: retighten the cap screws after you have broken in the engine a bit, they WILL come loose again with the heat.
Re: Clunk.
With the tank 1/2 full...
Connect a piece of CLEAN tubing onto your vent line using a piece of brass tubing.
Disconnect the line going to the HS needle and aim it at a receptacle of some sort.
Blow through the vent line.
If the clunk is messed up, you will not get fuel flow.
You can always pull the tank and check it, which IMHO is a better option.
