Slightly off topic:
For our US readers, in post #7 follow the anaconda movie link. Apart from mini tactor pulling, Wooden shoes are still worn in the Netherlands. I used to wear them as a kid, until callusses on my upper feet became prohibitive. Nowadays they have leather strapped upper parts, which are much better.
