For a club fun fly you generally want something extremely light and aerobatic with an excess of HP. You also need something with a wide landing gear for those slalom type events on the ground. If you have one of the newer 3D planes then it will be great in the air, but if it has a long spindley landing gear, then you're doomed on the ground.
I don't generally participate in club fun flies because in the competitive spirit I'm too likely to trash a good airplane. It's more fun to watch everyone else trash theirs.
