I agree with Insanemoondoggie.
You may not want a trainer type airplane but hey, sorry, you do have to learn to fly.
An ARF or even RTF trainer will get you in the air fast and get you learning while you are in the build proccess of whatever kit you want.
You can even use the engine and radio equipment in your kit build after you are done training.
As for kits, I have had a number of them from various manufacturers and I have found
