RE: DX-7 Losing Bind
I am the other DX7 user that has been having what I refer to as the loss of bind. I started having the binding problem back in March. Its really kind of strange, some days there is no problem what so ever, but then other days every airplane you get out could lose its bind multiple times. Its gotten so bad that I carry an extra Spektrum switch, bind plug and battery in my starting box for easy rebinding.
I contacted Spektrum Service by phone in mid June and described my problems. I was informed that no one else was having this problem but rest assured no one has ever lost the bind while in the air. The service rep informed me to make sure I turn the transmitter on first and to hold the transmitter away from the airplane. He also recommended for me to send the DX7 and my 5 AR7000 receivers in to the service center, well it was peak flying season and I surely did not want to be without radio and receivers so I decided to wait until the fall to send them in for service.
I have never used the tray that Thad uses, I have one but just never used it. I fly with a Spektrum neck strap. After my conversation with Spektrum service I have payed close attention to the startup of the DX7. I pickup the transmitter and hold it without touching the bind button on the back side and then turn on the transmitter. I hold the transmitter out at arms length and and turn away from the airplane and hold it as far away from the airplane as i can get.
It has happened so many time that I can tell right as I turn the Airplane on whether or not its going to bind. Its almost as if the receiver locks out, because the servos will make a quick pulse and then lock and hum all within about 2 to 3 seconds.
On Saturday (8/25/07) and Sunday (8/26/07) every time I went to fly I had to rebind before flying that was 3 airplane 3 flights each both days. Last Sunday (9/2/07) I flew two different airplanes 2 times each. Both came unbound 1 time each. Monday (9/3/07) I few the same two airplanes and never lost the bind. Thad on the other hand had problems both days.
Overall I really like the DX7 system and the locked on feel you get with it. But it does get frustrating when your ready to fly and then for some unknown reason you cant get your transmitter and airplane to link up, so then you have to get out the bind plug and do a rebind. I Know I have siad I hated the system in the heat of my frustration but I really do like the Spread Spektrum technology.
So, yes I will be sending in all my receivers and my DX7 this fall, but not till flying season is over.
