Correct, and it is that the transmitter has not been bound to a receiver after being put in to bind mode. It isn't that it 'lost bind', just that you attempted to rebind while pressing the button and powering on the TX weather you meant to or not. I don't see how you could press the bind button just sitting flat as the bind button is almost 3/4" or higher above the surface of say a table when you place the TX down flat, so to press the bind button, something else would need to be under the TX. Yes, the switch not providing enough power could cause the system to not link/work.

Binding and linking are 2 different things. I assume that you mean the system is not linking when you turn on the TX and then turn on the RX. If it is not linking, that does not mean that the system has 'lost its bind', it means that it is not linking. Common causes of not linking are one, as you mentioned, standing too close can sometimes cause it, also using near a large metal object can cause linking issues. Have you tried in different areas etc?
