1 gallon lifespan is most commonly from 2 user errors: 1. Dirty air filter or one that allows dirt in (Most common cause of early engine failure.) a quick test is to take a clean paper towel and wipe the inside of the carb with it, it comes out black or brown tinged, you're getting dirt in there. 2. Too lean. OF course engine failure can also come from a manufacutring defect. However, a $500 OS speed or a $120 STS will both die just as quickly if dirt gets by the air filter. Most plane engines have minimal filters at best as they don't run around with dirt being flung at the motors. Some don't even run with airfilters!
