If you want to practice landings and get the plane more on the centerline, what I tell students is to do an approach and point the aircraft right at them after your turn on final. Let it come in that way, as it is coming towards you. You will naturally tend to move it over to the left or right and get a good lineup with the centerline.

Try it a few times and you will see that the landings will begin to straighten out and become more and more on the runway centerline.
