Default RE: Quick draw cost vs mod zenoah

Why do the Quick draw engines cost so much? Are they really that good? Also, I have seen a lot of engine builders, Bonzi, WHH, toxic marine ,etc. have "mod 1" or "mod 2" or "pro mod" engines. Is everyones mod 1 the same. How do you compare??
Why do they cost so much?
QD motors are made in the US (Southern California)
Theres a lot of machining of billet parts
Theres a lot of money spent on development
Theres not much volume - good old economies of scale

Are they really that good?
Personal preference. Theres certainly good performance coming from their products but that is mixed with a good share of hype too. My personal thought is that they are not all they are cracked up to being and they are very expensive for maintainance/repair.

Is everyones mod 1 the same?
No - you will have to find out just what modifications are done. How well they are done and what improvement such modifications make to the final performance of the motor is another story.

How do you compare?
You really cant. If you ask 20 winning racers about their motor you will likely get 20 different answers as to what needs to be done and who is the best at doing it. There are several high performance motor modifiers who are considered as masters of their craft. My thoughts as to mods are that if your going to do it then do it. None of this stage 1, 2 or 3 nonsense. If your going to have it modified then get all the power you can - you might as well - they have the motor apart and the additional modifications really are not that expensive.
