Yeah, sound like the dreaded stock RX glitch / lockout. The stock receiver will glitch for no apparent reason and if it's bad enough it will shut down then restart (symptoms are the heli pitches back), which takes a few seconds and in the meantime you'll have no control at all. Also, after a glitch the RX becomes even more susceptable to further glitching and needs to be 'cold started' by removing the battery and plugging it back in. I did some testing on the stock RX and finally came to the conclusion that it's just a flawed design and can't be fixed. I tested the voltage regulator and I don't think that's the problem as mine never got more than just warm. You don't need to spend a lot to get a decent radio...I picked up a used Futaba 6EXH on eBay bout six months ago for $58 and it's been flawless with a $18 HDX receiver.
