RE: New Batteries?
It occurs to me that selecting the relevant criteria that constitute a "performance increase" is getting harder. On the basis that a Prolite powered model already has more than enough performance and the newer bateries are heavier, what do we want from them?
Personally I would like to be able to fly a little longer when practicing, although P09 is considerably shorter and will allow some extra practice manouevres with the existing cells. Lower IR will bring cooler running but here in the UK this is seldom a problem. The biggest problem I see is that cells that hold their voltage better under load effectively raise the overall gear ratio of the drive train. This means that if we don't need to draw a lot more current we need either to prop down or go to a lower kV motor. Those of us who run direct drive outrunners are severely limited in this respect as a lower kV motor isn't available and presently neither are high pitch smaller dia props.
Hopefully the motor and prop manufacturers will be prepared to develop their products along with the battery manufacturers.
