Thanks John. I think that is the way I'll go. Was thinking of getting real fancy with cutouts made on the scroll saw etc. - but it is nothing anyone will see and drilling is much easier and faster and the effect will be the same - less weight. I shall compute my weight savings. Should be interesting!!
