Thanks for all your replies: I have been heating all sides with a hear dryer including the top of the heat siink. This works well reducing stress on the overall compression. I have to remember to run the flywheel to the bottom of the compression chamber to allow for reseanable shrinkage within the chamber after each run.
Yes, that will defineately help to increase engine life by plenty too. I just recently learned of this and realized its importance after having a few engines last about 2-3 gallons.
