RE: Important JetCat Announcement from the JetPower Show!
It's tough decisions Joel, no doubt about it. I remember my old Ram 1000's. I was complaining one day on here that a P-120 held nothing to a good running Ram 1000. Mr. Matt comes on and says "If I built set a P-120 up where it only had to run 15 times, he'd make a Ram 1000 look stupid" or something like that.
I have never forgotten that and always let that be the excuse for the slow acceleration and long term reliability of the P-120. It made sense then and still hold up today. If Ram 1000 had a lifetime warranty, would you trade some of the problems in exchange for the incredible performance, knowing you could get it taken care of for free?
I've been learning a lot about the setup of these engines recently. The fact is, a lot of the problems that I've been having over the years with Merlins and Artes, have been user induced (Ask Bobr for a copy of the email I sent him). And beyond that, a lot of guys don't understand that when an engine acceleration is set and sent to the consumer, it's set at different altitude, pressure, temperature, and performance characteristics from where the user will end up using the engine.
What I'm learning now is how to properly set up an engine for a given day. Once I've got all that figured out, I suspect a lot of my problems are going to go away. Flying in August on a 100 degree day in Austin, is just different from Mexico City at 6000 msl.
Anyway, I see Andy's comment now about distracting from Artes, I don't really feel that is the case. As Jetcat has been in business for quite a while, their knowledge and ability to understand what their longterm liabilities are changes and is better understood. Certainly there will always be competition where there is profit, it's just slow to come to fruition when you're dealing with consumers Hobby Dollars.
Overall, again, I like to see that Jetcat is changing with the times, offering more, for not that much more. This is part of the reason I actively recruit new blood into our segment of the hobby. With those dollars, the suppliers are bettering their company and what they can offer. All of them. It's a great time to be in RC Jets!
