RE: Atomizing Jets?
Hi Bob,
Even though you don't want or need any boost you still need to understand AB design in order to have flames. If you inject fuel directly to the exhaust stream it won't burn but will vaporize and give off a lot of smoke. I doubt that even a very fine mist will help.
There are 2 things you can try.
1) Preheat the fuel. Wind the tube around the outside of the tailcone. You need to experiment with the length of the tubing. Too short and the fuel won't vaporize properly. Too long and the fuel may burn in the tube giving off little explosions and possibly blowing a hole in the tube.
2) You need some kind of flame holders. A small wedge with the pointy end pointing at the turbine. Have the injector blow the fuel into the "sheltered" area behind the wedge. This is like sheltering a candle from the wind with your hand. The idea is to prevent the wind from blowing it out.
If you don't want any boost then this should be enough. Dump enough fuel there and you should get a nice flame. Actually getting boost from an AB is much more difficult. It has been done, though. [link=http://www.airtoi.com/special/spec2.htm]http://www.airtoi.com/special/spec2.htm[/link]
