I ran a car restoration company many years ago, and PPG is very good but as said before needs the right equipment. Klass Kote is superb for models, sprayed using a finishing gun, with a 1mm needle at 40-50-psi, (thinned to around 50% depending on conditions) gives very good results.

Here's a few shots of a 'normal plane' done in a basic scheme.
