Good luck on your maiden,, have a blast ,,,,,I'd say the 11x4 also with the 46,,, balancing with the fingertips is a fine way to do it, I'm with 2hi2c on that, I also have been balancing planes for over 30 years on my fingertips,, However I did break down and buy a balancer last year just because it was something else to buy for the hobby LOL

Camoman I'd say anywhere from 4.5 on up to 5.25 seems to work great,, everyone here seams to have their own special flavor, I'm fond of the 4.75
