A guy by the name of Eric Meyers experimented with that a while back, but with the aid of flaps as well. He could spot land and stop that airplane in about 50ft.

A number of years ago, Bob Parks convinced me that they were not nearly as effective at killing lift as I thought.

Even so, its a good use of computer radios and its better than nothing if you don't have flaps.
