Like I said before, if 12A is demanded by the motor it will take it regardless of anything else. If your wires are the weakest link they will glow and burn up. That's how electrics work. The weakest link gets the hottest. All Electronics fail due to excessive heat.

You'd be surprised as to how many amps the smaller gauges can handle.
