Oh, using 15% all syn fuel. and a 12 x 6 wood Zinger and the motor has very good compression.
Gary,
This engine not only has a brass bushing bearing, but is also an ABN
Aluminium,
Brass,
Nickel) piston-sleeve design.
Like you've been told by Jim (w8ye), Bruce (Xjet), foresterxt... You must use fuel that contains a good measure of castor oil in it...
Not a mere 2-3% but a good 10% as the minimum!! ...If you want it to last a reasonable timespan and I think you do.
As someone living in the MI USA, you can't say any fuel is not available.
Sig Champion fuels (20% oil, half castor) and PowerMaster GMA (22% oil, half castor -
even better) are good candidates, but most model fuel companies make fuel that fit this bill.
These are not mere opinions...
It is absolutely imperative!!
Also, see this [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1850473/anchor/tm.htm#1850473]this RCU break-in thread[/link] to understand this ABN engine of yours a little better.
As to the glow plug, you need to use a medium heat plug, for this engine with 15% nitro fuel.
The OS #8 is OK, but you can also get the [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJA89&P=ML#mults]Tower Power[/link], which is nearly its clone, for ~1/3 of the price.
