I ues an old #11 blade with the very tip broken off to gently lift the plastic tab. Lift just enough to let the pin slip out. otherwise you can break off the plastic tab, or bend it to the point that it no longer holds the pin tight.

As for seperating the wires. That is the toughest part. Be very careful not to strip the insulation from the wire. Hobbico HD (20 guage) extensions are probably the easiest I've done. Hitec servo leads are the toughest.

Again, Braiding is way overboard, but I like the way it looks in comparison to just twisting the wire over itself.
