Default RE: DA50 - Hard to Start, Idle Unreliable

ORIGINAL: bob_nj

There's a guy at our field with an older 50, and his runs like a top!
Wonder what makes some so problematic?

If it is truly a reed problem, why are some running well?
He does the type of flying I do, which is 3D and such.
Some guys probably don't ask so much from the performance of the 50, and
consequently don't experience, or care so much about the throttle response, or
inverted junk.

So many questions...
I can't imagine anyone who invests in one of these engines, and then doesn't fly inverted. But anyway, my 3W with this symptom turned out to be a combination of a rich setting on the needles (fixed after break-in) and an under propping which allowed the read valves to 'float'. She runs well now.
