Default RE: GWS Tiger Moth 400 - build, esc, servo, batt questions

The little red JST connector on the battery pack is designed for low-current applications -- 5A at the absolute maximum. You'll want to replace it with a better connector. A good choice is the Deans Ultra, which also happens to be the most popular battery connector for electric flight.

Since your ESC will probably come without a battery connector, my advice would be to change over the connector on the battery to a Deans Ultra female, and put a Deans Ultra male on the ESC.

Most ESCs have a battery eliminator circuit (BEC) built into them, and I'm sure the E-Flite ESC has this feature. The BEC regulates the voltage from your battery down to a level that is appropriate for the receiver and servos, eliminating the need for a separate receiver battery (hence the term battery eliminator circuit).

When you plug the ESC into the throttle channel on your receiver, the BEC in the ESC provides power for the receiver and servos. This allows you to use a single battery to power the motor as well and the receiver and servos.
