I can't address the other questions authoritatively, but I can take a shot at this one. Play in the crankshaft is perfectly normal. That play should go away for the most part once you install the propellor and prop nut. Bushing engines must have some clearance between the crankshaft and crankcase. There is nothing else, other than the back plate and prop to hold it in place.
