Bob yes it works just fine, use a Y harness and connect your battery to one end and a servo of your choice to the other then just plug it to your RX. I have 2 planes that are set up with a receiver pack, I use the rudder servo with the Y harness to the batt on one and as the other has no BEC on the ESC I use the lead from the ESC with the red wire unhooked,( just for safety reasons)
