It looks good to me, remember you will be filling that area - apply the filler before you do your finish sanding - use that "SuperFill" filler from aircraft spruce - Mike turned me on to that stuff and it's really good.

I like the strip planks myself - I've seen the wood sag a lot when you do the sheeting. You can use stiffer wood too.
