"Faux-Que" New F3A Design Build Thread
Beginning 12/1/07, I will begin a build thread, combining as many design elements from the "Masters' from the world of radio controlled precision aerobatics including (in no particular order) Bridi, Prettner, Matt, Lowe, Hansen, CPLR, Hyde, Somenzini, Suzuki, Guerin, Blackwell and Bla Bla.
The name "Faux-Que", pronounced Foe (rhymes with "toe") and Q (the letter "Q"), was selected because the primary components are derived from the Oxai-Zeque and the highly successful Piedmont Focus series. Additional, fashionable design elements, will include Hanno's super cool flap/spoilers from the Curare', a canalizer from CPLR, anhedral stab...Hanno again (the most historical minded reader may prefer to credit the world's post WWII super sonic jet aeronautical engineers), force arrangement by Guerin, pithy and brilliant analysis by Bla Bla, to name a few.
The construction will be of balsa, ply, foam, epoxy glass, plastic canopy and as little carbon honey comb material as possible, covered with an iron film with painted cowl, landing gear struts and wheel pants. The model will be powered by a YS DZ 160 with Hatori short pipe/header combination.
The estimated cost to build the model will be less than $1,000 (excluding radio and engine components), much less depending on your "inventory" of parts. The estimated time to complete the entire model, ready to fly, may be as little as (50) hours.
This thread, is nothing more than "kit bashing" a Piedmont Focus II ARC. You, applying your own "creative genuis' may prefer to use any number of very fine designs available. I have chosen the Focus II because I have had (4) over the years, it is inexpensive, it is available NOW and has very suitable components to "stylize".
Material List:
(1) Piedmont Models Focus II ARC kit
(1) YS DZ 160
(1) Hatori "short" pipe and header (simplest, could be the long versions)
(1) Hyde mount type "A"
(1) pair of Zeque landing gear legs and wheel pants available from Sam at Oxai-USA
The goal of this project is to attempt try something different by combining some the "Masters" ideas around a competitive airframe I have always enjoyed flying. This is not a doctoral thesis on model aeronautics. This is not the beginning of a commercial venture. This is not a... "this is the best way to execute x,y or z" rather this is... "one of many ways".
To the critics, heretics and blow hards...I compliment you in advance for your brilliance and personal awareness...call me directly (312) 580-6838, rather than demonstrate your selfish and rude behavior on this thread.
