I fixed the wheelpants problem on both my Ulti and my Skybolt. I beefed up the inside of the pants with lite ply and and let the axles go through both sides. No more cracking problem!
Use plenty of Locktite on ALL threaded parts on the Skybolt and you shouldn't have any loosening problems.
