Anybody can install a larger engine, a better tuned pipe, more tranny speeds, and more nitro. Of course the vehicle will go faster with those.
As for 'eye candy', isn't that what custom paint jobs are? Custom wheels? Polished and anodized aluminum parts? Or in the case of airplanes the covering job, the polished spinner, the working lights. None of it makes the vehicle faster. It's all for the pleasure of modeling.
