RE: Modeltech Magic V2.0 ARF
Hello, I'm a new member but an old flyer. I put my 40 size Twist (with a Tower 60) into the dirt when I lost a elevator rod, so I bought the ModelTech ARF-Magic V2.0, and built it to the plan with no added structeral reinforcment. I used HiTec HS 645 BB servos for the Elevator and the Rudder which are 2 oz. servos instead of the Futaba 3004 which come in at 1.5 oz.. These are located behind the CG. I also installed a HiTec HS81 for the throttle servo instead of a full size Futaba 3003, and this is right on th CG. I reversed the battery pack (4cell) and the receiver location to put the battery pack closer to the CG point. And I used the recommended Magnum 46 (had one sitting around) with the 2 1/2" alum. spinner and a 13x4 wide APC prop. Engine was mounted as close to the Firewall as possible. The plane was extremely nose heavey. Replace prop with a 12.25X3.75 Wide APC, and still had to add 2.5 oz. to the tail to get it to balance. The plane flys OK, but as a 3D plane it is lacking, and with a 10 mph + wind the ground handling was iffy. You can make your own decision, but for the money the Hanger9 40-Twist is a much better plane. I pulled the Magnum 46 off removed the tail weight and will start over with a OS 32. If performance is lacking I may convert it to E flite.
