I have to agree with Flyboy here. Whether it's "radio" or "remotely" controlled it's still participating in the hobby. I'll be the first to admit that I am an absolute RC junkie. I've flown a lot of different advanced planes and I still take time to fly other items as well. Earlier this year I reviewed the Megatech Avion ( [link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/article_display.cfm?article_id=885[/link] ) for RCU. This plane had an optical controller on it, so it definitely wasn't "radio" controlled. I took this with me when I visited Minnflyer so he could help me shoot the video. Mike and I had a complete blast flying this little plane in the theater where we shot the video at. I think I can safely say that we had as much fun flying this plane as we do flying larger "radio" controlled planes.
One way to start up a quick argument is to refer to our RC planes as "toys". I am completely immersed in this hobby and I'll be the first to tell you that no matter how expensive a plane is it's still nothing more than a toy. Yes, it's a very expensive toy. And yes, it can kill somebody (the two most commonly heard arguments). But it's still just a toy. Heck, playgrounds are expensive but their sole purpose if for play. A simple ball can kill somebody if they step on it and fall and break their neck. I really don't understand why some people are so resistant to admit they are toys. We have a guy at our field that is 70 years old, but if you meet him you'll swear he is in his 50's. If you ask him about it he'll be the first to tell you "Hell yes, their toys!!!" His advice on this subject is that when you STOP playing with toys that's when you get old. I totally agree with him. I plan on "playing" with my toys until the day they nail the coffin shut!!!! And lastly, remember the saying..... He who dies with the most toys, wins!!!!!!
So in my mind, whether it's radio controlled or remotely controlled it's still RC. And I'm going to continue playing with both of them!!!
