Default Leopard 2

OK, decision time. Hobby Engine / Graupner Leopard 2 for my Christmas present, or not???? Sorry, just cannot justify Tam's Leo prices, unless someone wants to buy one for me, then....P-L-E-A-S-E!!!!!!!!!)

I know they have "issues" (electronics poor / rubber band tracks / etc) but visually they aren't bad surely? If I was to take the plunge, has anyone had any experiences with modifying one of these, into a HL powered beastie perhaps? At around the £80 mark ($160 ish), decent size piece of kit for the money, or not???

Suggestions:
1/ Fit Pershing drive / sprockets / tracks (similar from a distance.....OK rivet-counters calm down, I did say "from a distance"!!)

2/ Fit HL S&S electronics for better control

3/ Add Tamiya / aftermarket parts to make it more Tamiya-like visually

4/ Thorough paint-job to finish

and, ....voila.....silk purse (or maybe not, more like a lesser pig's ear perhaps?)

Come on guys, give me some enthusiastic noises here......please?? If you make it sound feasible I only have 4 weeks to get it bought to send to Santa

Cheers
