To enjoy the hobby, you need to not let the hobby control you. There are many planes and radio combo's that are quite a bit cheaper. If you want a P-47, then set aside the money each month and save for it. You can start with the kit and buy the other parts as you need them. I have been in this hobby for 30 years, and while it has gotten more expensive over time, it is still very enjoyable to me and I save my money for the big things that I want.
