I guess they would have to be in the water long enough to heat completely through, but that would happen in about a minute I think. I'd guess a quick dip won't be enough, but I have no idea how long your 'dip' was.
I've suggested that trick to enough people that I should have heard if it was the magic that we are all looking for. Maybe a longer dip time would do it.
