Default Servo repair and testing

Dose anyone have any information on checking the centering of a servo motor? And is there any timing of the gears when reinstalling after lubracating them? I have several older Futaba
FP-S148 that I would like to be able to use for lite duty loads like throttle or engine kill functions. the connectors have been cut off and I was planning to get extention wires and solder them to the existing wires. Any advice would be helpfull
