When I use to run my MT 1 ¾ a lot I use to run ¼ to ½ gallons a day and had very few problems. Matter of fact I use to race it against brushless 2 wheel drives on a track and it did quite well. When I race any of my nitro vehicles I do very meticulous prep work. When I spend a day racing I will spend about 8 to 10 hours of prep and service work before the next race. As any racer be RC or 1 to 1 and maintenance is very important!!!
I never seen any need for carbon fiber other then it looks really good on my MT and some flex is a good thing and is why I all so do not run a lot of alloy other then what came on it.
