RE: learning
You should be getting a fairly good run time out of the included battery.
At least 10+ minutes or so with throttle management. I've easily clocked 14 minutes, more with a 2200mAh battery.
Since it takes about an hour to charge with a good charger, to fly this plane almost non-stop you'll need a total of at least three packs.
That gives you three charged packs when you go flying initially and as you are into the second pack you can be charging the first.
You should give the plane about 10 minutes between discharges to cool things down, so the three packs can keep you flying all day.
The packs it uses can be employed on many. many other electrics, so money on additional packs will never be wasted.
Consider getting a good charger and at least two more packs.

The Pulse XT is a great flyer.
You will be flying it further out than the Typhoon and in many ways you'll find it easier.
At first keep the rates set low when you are close to the ground though as it can be quite responsive.
Preferably fly it with a good computer controlled TX so you can adjust Expo, etc.
The PNP version is a breeze to set up... but remember to adjust the control surfaces before you fly the first time. Do not assume that they are set from the factory.
I'll bet the engine will start right up...
But make sure that you perform nose-up, nose-down, pinch tests.
Remember that your landings must be GENTLE, the Typhoon 3D 2, because if it's light weight can take landing stalls and harrier landings very well.
The Pulse cannot.
