Welcome to R/C flying. If you go to the Beginner threads here on RCUniverse, and on the beginner forums at Wattflyer and RCGroups, you will find that the two planes that are generally considered to be the best beginner planes are the HobbyZone SuperCub and the Multiplex EasyStar. They are both made of foam, which means that they will stand up better in the event of a crash, and are much easier to repair than wood/monocote.
