Default RE: Sig Four Star 60

ORIGINAL: Capt Lou

I just ordered a Sig Four Star 60 kit. I like to build as opposed to assembling ARF's. I will power it with a Saito 91S, and use a Futuba 7C FASST system . I have built many different Sig kits in the past and like their quality, instructions, and finished product. Does anyone have any tips to give me on buliding the Four Satr?

Thanks in advance!
Capt Lou
Great tips by Dr. Wogz, I differ in that I suggest you keep the wing span the same, and only use the inner 1/2 of the strip Al. for "Flaps" I did that and the plane lands and rolls very well. I second the comment about reinforcing the leading edge of the wing, it's very weak. Sheet it back to the first spar top and bottom. ALSO build yourself a stronger DH brace for the wing center section, running it out at least 1 bay farther on each side. I also put a second DH brace about 1/3 of the way back, by thinning the Sig brace.

Don't be tempted to increase the Al. th. because you are only using 1/2 of the "Plan" Al. The plane will roll very quickly with the stock th. because of the loss of drag from the inner 1/2. I suggest covering it in "Micafilm" because it is very strong, and 1/2 the weight of Monocoat. The only problem with Micafilm is you need to Paint "Balsarite" on any surface your plan on ironing down, as Micafilm as no adhesive. I really like the way Micafilm looks.

I put 2" wing tips on mine because I did not care for the "Chopped Off" look of the stock wing. Also the canopy looks bad, do go with an after market one, or cut down the Sig canopy. I also went to nylon bolts to hold the gear, and would definitely follow the previous gear recommendations.

You will like the kit, it builds easily and the plane flies great.
